Time for an upgrade

Every freelance web designer suffers from a deep worry that any day in the future their means of making their living will go kaput. Of course I am talking about our computers, mine for the past 5 years has been a trusty Acer Laptop but has been slowly becoming a pain to work with.

This weekend I went computer shopping and found picking the right computer is easier said than done. I set my self a budget of Ā£500 (So Mac was out of the question) šŸ™ So what should web designers take into account?

My first must is it has to be a “NoteBook” (apparently they are no longer allowed to be called “LapTops” as an American lady burnt her knees and threatened to sue for all the money in the galaxy)

I ended up buying the samsung 300E5A and I have to say I am very happy with my selection.

It has the IntelĀ® Coreā„¢ i5-2450M processor (dummm….dum..dum..dum) it has 6GB of memory there is also a 500GB Hard drive, it also boasts a NVIDIAĀ® GeForceĀ® GT 520MX Optimusā„¢ Graphics card.

you find out more here and I have to say so far I am very impressed! šŸ™‚

The down side would have to be the keyboard feels very alien at the moment due to the height and space of the keys, my biggest concern has to be the position of the power cord it is sticking out the left side and I feel a “Whoopsie” in the future.

My plan was to have my new notebook ready with all my programmes and files needed and continue using my old Acer until it completely dies on me. After spending the weekend on my new Samsung I have decided to pack away my trusty old Acer and keep it for a backup just encase.

So my advice to any web designers in the position I was in who does not want to take the plunge to Mac, shop around and if you’re stuck for ideas check out the Samsung 300E5A
